The images don’t do the setup any justice. Plus, I didn’t get too stylized with the buffet because we had an overall budget. Hence the alarm system box showing and no cute “backdrop”. BTW, our budget for the party was $500, which we definitely exceeded. But Grandma Lette (my Mother-in-law) and the boys had a freakin’ blast in the bounce house. LOL, my MIL, bless her goofball heart!

Basic Training Gav

I’ve mentioned in the past that Gav has sensory issues and really really REALLY doesn’t like to get his haircut. The buzzing of the clippers and having someone/thing touch his head is just too much for him. We had given up on trying to do home hair cuts, too traumatic. So, fed up with Son #2 looking like a hippie (or homeless person), Daddy took matters into his own hands. It’s quite the story, but I’ll give you the condensed version:

Inexperienced Daddy wielding hair clippers + wildly uncooperative kid = HUGE PATCHES OF BALDNESS = trip to Cost Cutters to get it “fixed” = my kid now looks like he’s ready for basic training

Yes, I cried. Bawled to be exact. (I’m a little overdramatic, what can I say.) In my defense, it was pretty hideous. We actually had to take him to a scheduled doctor appointment before we could take him to get it fixed. You should have seen the people staring at him in public! Talk about double-takes! And then he basically had to have his head shaved because there was nothing else the hair cutting gal could do. Poor kid! But yes, I got over it. It’s only hair afterall, it will grow back! But NO MORE home hair clipping for Daddy, that’s for sure!

Q and G 2010

Quentin recently got his haircut, so it’s a lot shorter. Gavin is a whole different story… he hasn’t had a haircut in MONTHS. Due to his sensory issues, Gav has developed an acute fear of hair cuts. The last 4 attempts to take him for a hair cut have resulted in scene-causing freak outs, complete with screaming, crying and throwing himself on the ground. Yeah, the ladies at Cost Cutters must love us. Pfeh! So we basically gave up on even trying anymore. He just won’t let clippers (or even a pair of scissors) go anywhere NEAR his head. We even tried it at home, with me trying to hold/calm him and Daddy wielding the clippers. It was a no go. Well, today I finally had enough of the Billy Ray mullet he was sportin’, so I pretty much FORCED him to let me cut his hair. It was a traumatic event for all involved, including Quentin, who was trying to assist Mom with the process. Hubby was asleep. Lucky him.

So how did it come out? Well, considering that I have zero training/skill when it comes to cutting hair and the fact that he was not very cooperative… All I can say is that homeboy is looking a lot like Lloyd Christmas from Dumb & Dumber (read: Mom butchered him). Oh well! At least he looks a little better than he did before! I don’t know what’s better… Lloyd or Billy Ray? ;)
